Chapter 24: Obediently Waiting
“Ugh…”
His body hit the floor. At first, he didn’t feel any pain. His vision went black. As he gradually came to his senses, sharp pain shot through his abdomen. His forehead seemed to be injured; blood blurred his vision.
He struggled to prop himself up into a sitting position. Instinctively, he wiped his eyes, but he still couldn’t see clearly. His head was dizzy from the fever. He vaguely felt something warm gushing out between his legs, soaking his pants. Only belatedly did he reach down and touch a handful of warm, fresh red blood.
Cheng Xiaonuan vaguely understood what this meant. Last time in the hospital operating room, the doctor told him that if he wanted to keep the baby, he had to protect himself well. He must never suffer any impact because the baby was very fragile and could be hurt with the slightest carelessness.
He had just fallen down the stairs. The baby might be leaving him…
The little fool was terrified. The empty house held only him. His stomach hurt more and more. And now, he didn’t even have the strength to get up from the floor.
He had been in too much of a hurry coming down and hadn’t brought his phone.
He suddenly missed A’qing so much. He wondered what he was doing now…
The cold temperature of the floor gradually stole what little body heat Cheng Xiaonuan had left, which was constantly draining away. He slowly curled into a ball. His blood-stained eyelashes fluttered very slowly. In his daze, he seemed to see a figure walking towards him.
But it must be an illusion.
Actually, he knew. Since Shen Qingchen had sent him here, he probably didn’t need him much anymore. Saying he would come see him if he was obedient was probably just another lie.
He just didn’t want to believe it.
“A’qing…” The little fool murmured, closing his eyes.
It hurts so much…
In a certain VIP ward at Huadun Hospital, Shen Qingchen gazed gravely at the unconscious man on the bed. After a long moment, he frowned. “In this condition, will there be aftereffects?”
“The patient’s body is far too weak. Experiencing something like this will inevitably cause damage. He’ll need careful recuperation later.” The young female doctor replied, holding a clipboard as she filled out the medical condition.
Two minutes later, after giving some instructions and precautions, the female doctor left. The room fell silent again.
Shen Qingchen sat down slowly on the chair beside the bed, exhausted. He held the man’s somewhat cool hand, his lips pressed tightly together.
He had never imagined that after just one night apart from this little fool, he would end up like this.
Five hours earlier, when he used the spare key to open the door of the suburban villa and saw the man lying unconscious at the foot of the stairs, he could hardly believe his eyes.
Large patches of red stained Cheng Xiaonuan’s white pajamas. He had never seen anyone bleed so much. Both pant legs were practically soaked through. His palm-sized face had no color at all. There was also a wound on his forehead; the fluid that flowed down had passed his eyes and streaked his cheeks, drying into a reddish-brown crust.
This meant he had been lying there for some time. Even his body temperature was cold.
Shen Qingchen couldn’t describe his feelings at that moment—panic, fear, his mind a blank. He picked the man up from the floor in near disarray, sped all the way, half-running and half-stumbling, to get him to the hospital.
The surgery lasted over four hours before Cheng Xiaonuan was wheeled out of the emergency room.
The child was gone.
Without this obstacle between him and Cheng Ruochen, he should have felt happy. But instead, his mood was indescribably heavy.
Perhaps it was because he thought about how, once the little fool woke up and learned this news, he would have to spend effort comforting him. It gave him a headache.
After all, he had been with him for a year. Something like this had happened. Even if he didn’t like him, he couldn’t just leave him uncared for.
