Chapter 5: Let's Be Together<br>The car glided smoothly onto the highway. A ringtone cut the silence. On the dashboard display flashed two words: The Fool.<br>Jian Qing glanced, brow tightening. He rejected the call without hesitation.<br>"Not answering?" Cheng Ran eyed him.<br>"Not important." Jian Qing kept his eyes on the road. "Long flight. Tired? What do you feel like eating?"<br>A strange feeling prickled Cheng Ran. He studied Jian Qing’s sharp profile, suddenly calling: "Jian Qing."<br>"Hm?"<br>"You know why I came straight to you?" Cheng Ran’s tone turned serious.<br>Jian Qing felt a flicker of curiosity. "Why?"<br>"I know." Cheng Ran paused. "About the money."<br>Jian Qing’s heart sank. Damn the school’s incompetence! He scrambled to explain, "I didn’t mean to hide it—I thought you’d refuse—"<br>"Do you still like me?" Cheng Ran cut him off.<br>The question hung, sudden and sharp. Jian Qing’s grip tightened on the wheel. He stared ahead, silent for a long moment. "Truth?"<br>"Always."<br>Jian Qing drew a breath. "Yes. I’ve been waiting for you."<br>Silence filled the car. Awkward. Just as Jian Qing braced to speak again, Cheng Ran broke it.<br>"Let’s be together."<br>"What?" Jian Qing whipped his head around, eyes wide with disbelief.<br>"I said, let’s be together." Cheng Ran smiled.<br>String him along too long... better give him a bone before he runs.
